John passed away quietly at home on Sunday 17th June after a long battle with lung cancer.
He joined the army as an apprentice in 1948. A distinguished career followed, rising quickly through the ranks to attain the rank of WOI followed by a commission to the rank of Captain, Much of his 30 year career was spent with 9 Para Sqn RE. He retired in 1978 and worked in the prison service until 1998 when he left to care for his wife Pamela until her passing in 2001.
John was a long term member of the City of Wakefield Royal British Legion Branch 1100 and served as Standard Parade Marshal during remembrance week for a number of years. He leaves, and will be greatly missed by, wife Tricia, sons John and Andrew, grandchildren Johnny, Ian, and Karen and great granddaughter Ruby.
