Roll of Honour

In Memory of William (Bill) Dickson

Very little is known of Bill’s pre-War life; whether he was a Darland Boy or a conscript. We do know that he served in 3 para Sqn RE where he became a lifelong friend of Alan Graham.

Post-War he, with his wife Sheenah, went to Australia and took up residence on the coast at Manly, North East of Sydney Harbour.
Every year they would both come to the UK to attend the Normandy Pilgrimage and the first port of call was always to meet Alan Graham now (Major) and then other 3 Para members including Steve Crane at Ludgershall and others. When he was serving Bill was referred to as Tubby Dickson’ but post-War both he and Sheenah were like a pair of Whippets walking quickly everywhere!

While never a member of the Chatham Branch, whenever he was in the UK he spent a good bit of time with us. When visiting Australia, John Elliott and Liza would visit them in Manly, so he was in essence one of the Chatham Branch family.

Both Bill and Sheenah had lived in the Salvation Army home for several years where Sheenah predeceased Bill and he got his last posting on 10th August 2019, being survived by his daughter Joan. RIP dear friend. Blenk
