Roll of Honour

Brian W (Jungle) Jones

Brian died on 10th May 2004.

Brian joined 9 Independent A/B Sqn, as it was then, in 1951 and left the Sqn in 1957 after its return from Operation Musketeer at Port Said.
His first posting overseas was in 1951 when the Sqn sailed to Cyprus on HMS Warrior. From Cyprus the Sqn moved to Egypt for the remainder of its overseas tour. During this time Brian was an active member of Two Troop and underwent training as a wireless operator.

On the unit's return to the UK Brian was promoted to Sergeant and became the Unit's Signal Sergeant. The Sqn's next move was to Cyprus in 1956, where they were employed on anti EOKA operations before operation Musketeer at Port Said.

Brian left the Sqn in 1957 and retired in the mid 70's as a W02. During the latter part of his service he was involved with the TA and also the Army Cadet Force and was awarded the LS and GC medal.

After his retirement he became an active member of the British Legion and after the AEA was formed he was Chairman of the North West branch. Brian was very proud of his airborne service and attended all the reunions and associated events. He also visited Egypt twice to visit the areas where he served whilst with the Sqn in the Canal Zone.

Sadly his wife died about seven years ago and in the last few years his health deteriorated. Our condolences go to his daughter and two sons.

His wife Jeanette, son Dale and his wife Cathie, daughter Janice and grandchildren survive Gibby. He will be sadly missed.
