Lt Col (Retd) John Martin Perkins

 

Lt. Colonel "Aeneas" John Martin Perkins aged 77 years, former OC 4th Parachute Squadron RE died suddenly at Lilllestone (Golf Course) on Thursday 5th September 1996. As OC commanding the Squadron, which was part of 4 Para Brigade 1st Airborne Division before the Battle of Arnhem, he was injured when landing on the DZ. Soldiering on, he was wounded a few days later and finally taken as a POW.

Since 1980 he has been President of the 4th Parachute Squadron RE Club and Chaired the Squadron reunion dinners. On retiring from Army life he became involved in Sevenoaks Council and a Governor of Wellington College. His other interests included the local Cricket and Rugby Clubs. For many years he worked for Wimpey Construction and Tarmac Construction. He will be sadly missed by all members
