Airborne Engineers Association

Roll of Honour

John Poultney

Wartime veterans of 9 Field Company RE will be sorry to hear of the death of one of their proudest members. John Poultney passed away in the latter part of 1994 but unfortunately no details of the circumstances of his death are known.

John was one of the original sappers of the Company when it was converted to the Airborne role in 1941. He was with the company in North Africa, Sicily, Italy and Arnhem. He was one of the few that came back across the river at the end of the battle.

After the war he emigrated to Australia with his family where he kept meticulous records of 9 Companies' experiences throughout the war. Nothing is known of his family or occupation in later years, despite exhaustive enquiries, these may come later.
